Dublin board the winners in Boyne affair

All credit to the Dublin county board and the attitude of their stats man Ray Boyne, which has brought proper closure to the unsavoury incident in which Monaghan star Tommy Freeman was allegedly headbutted.
Boyne met with the Monaghan player and his manager within days of the incident to apologise and the Dublin county board almost immediately handed the stat man’s name into the Central Competitions Control Committee for disciplinary action.
Boyne has also now accepted his 16-week suspension with good grace.
This is the right way to do business, no hiding behind holes in the protocols or disciplinary procedures or acting like the three wise monkeys.
The Dublin board has risen in my estimation for their handling of this affair bringing a bad episode to an honourable conclusion.
